Boston based digital artist Ari Weinkle's project 'Bloom' is a collection of artworks isnpired by jellyfish blooms and imagined psychic constructs. Ari's project will feed your eyes with aesthetically pleasing visuals.

Like most of my projects, it was born out of experimenting with new techniques. I was actually trying to create some realistic smoke simulations, but realized I could create more vibrant and organic outcomes by changing certain variables. As I was experimenting, the results reminded me of translucent jellyfish swarms, called blooms.

It was a lot of trial and error… Experimenting with colors, texture, and simulations to get the effect I was looking for. I wanted it to feel really complex and organic although it was created digitally.

I was looking at a lot of deep sea videos and images of jellyfish blooms. It’s actually a weird phenomenon which scientists are still trying to figure out. They reminded me of psychedelic landscapes which inspired the project.

I’m not sure I have a style… I like to experiment with a lot of new techniques and form them within a conceptual framework. My inspiration comes from a pretty broad range, but lately I’ve been really inspired by other digital artists. I like to scour Behance, Cargo, and Designspiration in particular.
