Coming App by Diogo Akio

Comïng is a mobile app for meeting people easily. It has been raised from my necessity of meeting people in my daily life, specially here in Brazil (probably other countries too) where people are used to being late to appointments. Also, for those situations when it's not so easy to find your friends in the crowd, like festivals, at the subway station, etc. It's an experiment, but I really would like to produce it.

I took into consideration that the design should tackle 3 ideas: Modernity, because it's a technological tool to connect friends. Friendliness, because it’s about a pleasant experience. Lastly, Clean UI because the user already has a lot of things to consider at the moment they’re using the app to meet someone. So I wanted it to be easy to understand. Leveraging only the elements you need, nothing else.

What mostly inspired me to create this project was my brother: He's always late! Regarding the design, I don't think I had any specific references. I just followed the 3 principles I mentioned.

The experience. It's about improving the experience of whatever appointment (social or business) in a different way: finding people easily by giving as many references as possible. But I think the design is also a plus.

I'm frequently changing my design references. But currently, I’ve been enjoying the work made by AREA 17, Sons&Co, HUGE, Andy Gugel, IDEO and others. I'm also exploring all the great design works from different companies. It's always good to recycle the visual ideas. I also have a well defined style that follows 3 principles: clean design, a nice grid and modest typefaces (I don’t like those fancy ones).

I think everyone has their own way of doing things, but there are few principles that I follow: Work with good people that want to support each other and also have fun. Human first, not mobile. Do it in a pleasant way, because tension and stress will make you less creative. Be curious and self-taught, but don't rush things. Respect your time.
