Faces of Nepal by Patrick Spang

Patrick Spang

When Patrick Spang was in Nepal back in 2013, he was fascinated by the strong facial expressions and the rich colors emanating from the people he met on this trip so he decided to make it a photographic project.

While in Pashupatinath, Nepal holiest Hindu place of pilgrimage, I met a lot of Sadhus. These “holy men” have turned away from all material things. They have only what they carry with them and live on charity.  For a small donation, they are usually willing to pose for a photo ;)))

The way to spiritual insight pave the Sadhus by the use of cannabis in different variants. As a sign of worship of Shiva, one of the three major deities of Hinduism, they wear long wild dreadlocks, sometimes covered with a headscarf.

I like strong and rich colors in my work. The models were perfect for this kind of project. I use Adobe Lightroom CC and Adobe Photoshop CC in my workflow. Some images in this project were processes in Color Efex Pro to lay emphasis on textures.

I printed a calendar 2015 with 13 images from the project. Overall, customers responded very positively.
