The Forest Series by Nikolaus Gruenwald

German photographer Nikolaus Gruenwald's latest project "The Forest Series" is a collection of forests from the Alps and Scotland. Although both regions have breathtaking mountains and are not too far away from each other, the vegetation is very different...

I have always been fascinated by forests, so when I find a great one I will definitely make photos. This year I have returned to as well South Tirol and Scotland after not having been there for more than twenty years. As you can see, both regions have great forests...

I love all the shapes, structures and colours that can be discovered in forests. You can find abstract patterns shaped by the trees and also tiny little details. And I think it is a great challenge to find a specific order in the natural "chaos".

Well I like retro colours and I try to have a geometric order in my images. I don't do HDR and I try to not over saturate pictures in the editing process.

Never think that you have reached the end of the ladder :-)

These are as a matter of fact amongst the first results that I got with my new digital medium format camera, a Pentax 645z, mostly with the 28-45mm or the 80-160mm lenses. I was amazed by the cameras field performance, the weather sealing works perfect which is unique in this camera class.
