Interstellar Poster by Conor Smyth

Interstellar is a 2014 epic science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine. The film features a crew of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of a new home for humanity. Dublin based graphic designer Conor Smyth was inspired by the futuristic movie.

The 'Interstellar' movie poster was something I wanted to create because the movie inspired me so much both visually and artistically. I always design these posters with one thing in mind...... would I hang this on my wall? My favourite poster artist, which I'm sure will be no surprise, is Olly Moss. I take a lot of inspiration from his use of bright attractive palates mixed with a minimal art style. I feel an effective minimalist approach is so much more striking than artwork that uses a lot of detail, but that's just a personal preference.

If I was to give any advice to budding designers it would be to design what you love and what you are passionate about; that way, you will always get the best out of your designs. I realized there are creative restrictions working in studios or in-house, and that is why I design these posters in my spare time. Surprisingly, it turns out these are the pieces that have landed me most of my jobs in freelance or in a studio.
