Kinetic Wi-Fi Router is kinetic art object that simplifies and visualizes the state of invisible transmitted radio waves using "moving antenna". I designed a new router as a kinetic art object where conventional routers can bring interior effect. This design makes it possible to intuitively check the transmission state by using a simple moving antenna and take action.
We can find routers well in the surrounding area. However, routers are simply recognized as devices that connect the Internet and existing routers were shaping with emphasis on performance first. Also, indoors, the router was recognized as an element to interfere with the interior inside the house. Therefore, routers have been installed and used in places which are invisible to the eyes. I tried to find a direction that can harmonize the performance and functions of existing routers, which are emphasized only by my performance, in design. As a result, it has come to think about the design that includes the function as well as the effect of the interior. As a result, Kinetic Wi-Fi Router, you can see the state of Internet connection on the fly and enjoy the antenna movement instantly to check the state of the Internet connection.
In order to check the size, I made a shape with paper mock-up. Then I modeled it as Rhino and rendered it to Keyshot. Also, I thought about the material that needs to use what kind of materials can receive the Internet smoothly. The solution I found was a painting that made the plastic look like a steel stick.
