People of Cuba by Jeroen Nieuwhuis

People of Cuba came about last June after photographer Jeroen Nieuwhuis traveled to Cuba together with cinematographer Erik Journée. They stayed in the old part of Havana city. They've wanted to go the Cuba for a couple of years and after they heard about Cuba opening itself up to Tourism, they decide to take the chance and go.

We were inspired by the amazing landscape/cityscape images fellow photographer Ebo Fraterman took throughout Cuba. These images made us curious about Havana and online we planned and searched for interesting places and people.

I prefer to shoot in a cinematic/painterly style that you will seethroughout my work. I feel inspired by the work of photographers Mark Seliger, Miller Mobley, Joey L and a ton of movies.

About Jeroen Nieuwhuis

At the age of eleven, Jeroen Nieuwhuis picked up his first camera through the love for skateboarding. While capturing his friends skateboard maneuvers, his obsession for photography grew and it started to get more serious. Inspired by movies and other photographers work, his photography slowly shifted from skateboarding to more commercial stylized images. A creative collaboration with cinematographer Erik Journée resulted a few years ago in their own photography & film studio called ’NEW DAY studio’. This studio is fully equipped with high-end film and still cameras and ideal for all types of photography and film productions. See more of his work at Behance or his website.
