The Enchanted Land 2 by Bjørg-Elise Tuppen

You may have seen Photographer Bjørg-Elise Tuppen's The Enchanted Land, she wanted to reflect the fairytale qualities as well as the diversity of the wild nature up in Northern Norway through this project. Most people have heard about Lofoten, but there are so many fantastic places up there. It is just a matter of driving for five minutes and you will happen upon one. Sometimes it is enough to just turn around. Let's go around the world with Bjørg's photos.

The greatest inspiration is the landscape and I am especially inspired by the darkness up here and constantly in admiration of its beauty and the way it is actually most defined by light. When the sun is under the horizon, even on its highest point, the sunlight is scattered in the higher atmosphere displaying the most amazing displays of light.

In the hour before and after this the light is reflected in blue and we can witness the phenomenon called the blue hour. The snow-covered landscape reflects these lovely hues of colors, and of course, we also have the Aurora – Northern Lights.

My style is quite dark and melancholic. In my work I aim to convey the feelings these beautiful places afflicts on you. Not just the beauty of it, but also the wild and powerful qualities. I try to dip into this when I edit my pictures and in effect I do take subtle but artistic liberties in my editing. I search for that extra, which will underline the feeling I want to convey.

Stay true to yourself. Explore your expression. Be inspired by other work but never try to copy. And don’t be afraid to break the “rules” – that can achieve the most amazing results.

I shoot with my Nikon D7100 and switch between my Sigma 10-20mm DC Hsm, Nikon 18-105mm VR and AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm. I love using zoom lens in nature photography, if you are in wide-open places, one can get some truly amazing effects. I edit all my pictures in Photoshop.
