DMI Weather App Redesign by Kasper Kristensen
DMI "Danish Meteorological Institute" is responsible for providing meteorological data within Denmark, the Faroes, Greenland and the territorial waters and airspace surrounding them. The project by Kasper Kristensen is a redesign of the DMI weather app which is simple and easy to use, but still has a lot of data available within a few gestures to those who need it.
It was a personal redesign I made using elements of the original DMI app in order to stick to the original thoughts, but still give it a new feel and look. I came up with the design while I was searching for a good weather app and really couldn't find one that fitted my needs 100%, but I still had to pick one to keep an eye on the weather after all. That started some thoughts about what I wanted in a weather app and so I began to sketch out some ideas and find some inspiration.

My inspiration came from a lot of places - mostly Behance. I looked at how other people had designed their weather apps and then began to make some sketches that fitted my needs. One of the things that I like the most about this concept is that everything you need to know about the weather is accessible right on the front page with a clean and user-friendly layout. And in a few gestures you can get more in-detail information about the weather if the need for that should occur. So a lot of information at hand, but in a clear and user-friendly manner.

I’m very influenced by the whole idea behind Scandinavian design and the saying: “Less is more”. I love the idea that the focus is to keep everything as simple as possible, but still elegant and functional. I can't say I only follow a couple of certain people or bureaus, but if I should name some of them it should be: Kontrapunkt, Maria Grønlund, DesignIt, BystedFFW and a lot more. Behance and Pinterest are also just a huge inspiration to me, so I can't pinpoint a single person or site.

The most important thing I have learned so far, I'm still learning new stuff and techniques everyday, is to have fun while doing it and to be curios. If it isn't fun then what’s the point? Just play around in the programs and try to make your own versions of the already existing design out there or create something all new.
