If there's one thing constant in the world, it's you're gonna need food. You'll get hungry. Freelance illustrator, Romain Trystram's latest project 'Yummy Cards' is a treat for all the foodie out there and basically for all of us. Let's see his scrumptious yummy cards.
This project is a pretext and a playground to experiment and learn new things. It's also a part of a bigger research on this theme. I already start four series including this one. The others are pretty different.

I prefer talk about motivation, more than inspiration. Because what i need is motivation to start something. I spend a lot of time to looking at images and projects which I collect and connect with. After seeing these motivations, my goal is to start a project myself. But I must say that I discover a recipes website call "Petite Kitchen". I found the photos absolutely beautiful. It was touched me because the topic wasn't food, I think, but talking about simple sweet moments. That's what gave me the desire to make the first illustration.

About style, I just try to make something different of what I see everywhere with the techniques I learned. I try to illustrate a feeling more than make photo realistic food illustrations. I am fascinated by light and try to experiment how to give the illusion of a feeling because it's just an illusion and when it works, it's fascinating...

The advice I can give is, start something. This is the most difficult part, make the first step, and another, explore and really discover what you are capable of. It's a surprise to discover that you can make much more than you imagine. Just do something, something small at the beginning. It's very important to also know your tools to be fluent technically. Technical problems are like walls. Also, practicing is the best way to learn, and go see behind the walls.

You see, it’s like scuba exploration, in the beginning you can’t go deep, and the deeps are just an unknown shadow place. But you train and learn with the best, and you go deeper, and discover incredible creatures that you don’t even think that can exist. You just need to start and practice, and be patient.

Romain Trystram studied graphic design in Paris. Five years after that, he worked seven years as a color artist and art director in an animated series and animated documentary.
