Martin Azambuja's Kaffe 1668 is a coffee store located in Tribeca, Soho. The client wanted to do a set of illustrations (25) for his new pressed juices. They also wanted to have some humor and generate complicity with the consumer. This is the reason for why they seek some concepts that emerge from the benefits of each juice. After some steps and sketches, Martina and the client agree about the style and composition of the labels. Martin worked on the whole set.

The clients love one illustration I made some time ago (a deer) and he wants to keep the style for his designs. Of course I take other considerations because it is a packaging and not an editorial or website illustration. I worked to make the illustration big and principal and then the rest of the information in both sides. Also I work with a system to make difference between the different types of juices (fruits, veggies, etc).

I think in my case, I define the style for certain decisions that take when I design or illustrate. I like bright colors, geometric, simple, straightforward and not add unnecessary elements. Probably this is because for a long time, my biggest influence was Swiss designers of the 60s and 70s. I am also interested in the work of other illustrators of the famous mid-century era. Some names may be Alexander Girard, Fredun Shapur, Celestino Piatti, Stefan Kanchev, Cruz Novillo.

It is difficult to give advice because no doubt I have much to learn and work. What I saw at this time, is that today we have access to show the work immediately in many ways and sometimes immediacy is a factor that works against us. Show the work that interests you and you would like to develop in the future, so this kind of projects will appear.

Martin Azambuja is a 26-year-old Graphic Designer. He's currently living in Montevideo, Uruguay. After working in advertising agencies and design studios, he decided to start working on his own. After a few months, he partnered with another illustrator and established their own studio in Montevideo where they work mainly branding and illustration. Also in parallel he make works as an illustrator for international clients and magazines. It was in this way that the work for the coffee store emerged since the client saw his artwork on Behance.
