Origin Of Vaccines by Jesús Fernández
Ever thought about the origin of vaccines? Jesús Fernández's “Amazing moments in science" is an audio-visual project of Scienseed SL, a science communication agency based in Madrid (Spain), performed in collaboration with the science website BBVA Open Mind. This series aims to explain major breakthroughs in science to any audience in a fun and engaging way, combining science, history and design in a motion graphics video.
This was the result of a collective effort in Scienseed and BBVA Open Mind. The idea to develop an animation series for explaining eureka moments in science stems from the need of society to be informed and thus value the importance that science has in their daily lives. The animation style is quite simple, because what the video features is complex and we did not want to distract from the main story. The colors are flat, without textures and shapes reducing to a minimum. Everything has been created on the basis of circles and semicircles, friendly forms. The background music has a certain epic tone to add that value to the video, which tells a very important historical moment for the fate of science.

I began creating the characters, as I said before, starting from simple rounded shapes. Then I chose the color range, leaning towards more elegant tones and colours that could be associated to the historical time that was being described.Once separated all the scenes in layers according to the needs of the animation, I made the first structure. Then I progressively added the actions of the rest of the elements. I finished up the project by adding the voiceover and the music. The project has been developed with Adobe illustrator and after effects.

We are pretty thrilled with the results! So far we are over 40,000 views in just 4 days and counting with quite good reviews and, most importantly, people telling us that they have understood how vaccination works. We are very proud and happy of the work done!

About Jesús Fernández
Jesús Fernández was born in Madrid in 1989. Currently he work as a full-time motion grapher and designer at Scienseed. He holds a BA in Graphic design and an MA in Motion Graphics production and development at CICE. He has a long experience in branding, animation, web and graphic design and audiovisual projects. As a cinema fan, he is always exploring new ways to join both passions into every new project.
