The process of my work is most valuable to me and I always starts with a pen and paper before turning to the computer. The computer is a fantastic finalizing tool but I also believes it limits my shapes and composition if I do not start fist by hand where I can go the whole hog.

For this projects I did a total of 8 rough sketches/explorations to explore different compositions and solutions for the client to consider. Once a favorite was selected I drew it more finely, tightening the lines and honing the details. The approved design is then scanned into illustrator where I redraw it with vectors using the pen-tool. Funny fact, I create all my vectors in illustrator using my lap tops touchpad, I do not use a Wacom board or mouse.

Martin Schmetzer is a Stockholm born and based designer specializing in hand-drawn typography with a high lever of detail and diligence. His style is a fusion of old and new, vintage 1900’s-era feel to a full-blown street graffiti temperament. Martin was born in 1984 and came in contact with hand draw typography through graffiti in the mid nineties. His style has evolved into what it is today through many years of development but you can still hint the graffiti background in most of his designs.
