Pedro Mustard's project 'Aesthetic Study' was the result from a class assignment. For the first time he could mix, relate artists and characters which really inspired him, and of course, he admire as well. It was a dream come true, thanks to the main rule (it was to be "creatively free"); so he started his tribute to some of his art world icons.

This project is based on Say goodbye to the classic charming black and white portrait where these celebrities are/used to be photographed, to then put some saturated alive colors and a make them look more dynamic, highlighting their own essences. The artwork is also composed by general items related to the life of: Marilyn Monroe, Laura Mvula, Carmen Miranda and Edith Piaf; this project is also immersed in graphic techniques from the visual artists: Andy Warhol, Hannah Höch and Roy Lichtenstein, their representation ways were previously studied in pro to this project, which also contributes to my constant, progressive and fruitful art language searching.

My visual and graphic inspiration is strongly related into woman. I think it started in my childhood, the fascination and love I felt for my mother at that time; her emotionality and our tough life with her fragile being, all that just did impact in my life perception, taught me to be more sensitive and inspired me to fight for her and become her hero. It was truly amazing to realize how women are able to do anything they want and succeed.

Plus, my own curiosity and research about women behavior trough history and the way they used to dress, it all just got me so inspired and I couldn't stop admiring all their facts since then. Flappers and classic Pin-Ups mean attitude, freedom and self-confidence. Me, as a native from a male chauvinist/sexist country , I can't get along and share same thoughts, because it's obvious, I fight for women and keep thinking ladies are synonymous of strength, charm and perfection, from the purest and naively, to the dangerous femme fatale one. My inspiration behind this and most of my projects is to defend and give prominence to woman itself, defend their feelings and naughtiness, and above all, show that woman itself, is art.

My style depends on the technique. In Photography or digital edition I do experiment with collage and textures (offset print and silkscreen); while in Paintings/illustrations, they're based on a clean and figurative representation, that sometimes has to deal with caricature appearance. Both techniques are about women, their feelings or just social graphic humor. Next step for me is mix both styles and set a new beginning to my art. As specific female inspirations, I have XX century Icons, from the 7 arts: Mae West, Josephine Baker, Hedy Lamarr, Marilyn Monroe, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Edith Piaf, Hannah Höch, Tamara de Lempicka, and even Betty Boop or Jessica Rabbit; while in visual arts, I dig a lot in Warhol and Lichtenstein's pop art; they will always mean and represent a lot to me, as much as masters Rolf Armstrong, Gil Elvgren and Alberto Vargas do.
