The Girl with the Red Coat meets Ghibli

This illustration series is an homage to Studio Ghibli, using my original character, the Girl with the Red Coat, as an “actress” at my favourite Ghibli movies (“Nausicaä of The Valley of the Wind”, “My Neighbor Totoro”, “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, “Princess Mononoke”, “Spirited Away”).

I enjoy improving my drawing skills making fanarts or little illustrations of my original characters, and I decided to mix both in this project. I love minimalist illustration, and I specially try to create attractive images with a few flat colors, but I also like adding a bit of textures at my artwork.

I only used Sketches Pro app for this illustrations series, so all the steps are digital. I also went to a web for making GIFs of the creation process. First of all, I always start sketching with pencil (traditional or digital). Then, I often ink my drawings traditionally using penbrushes, but sometimes I just do it digitally. When I begin making a traditional illustration, most of the times I scan it to color digitally, but I also use markers from time to time. Finally, I put some color to the drawing, and that’s my whole creative process.

This personal project has been so funny for me, I really enjoyed drawing it, and I would love to make it bigger.

I can’t really answer properly if we talk about people responding to my project, because I’m not very popular, so I don’t usually have feedback from the Internet, but there are some people who like this project, and I’m very grateful for that.

I hope you had enjoyed watching and reading about my project, thank you so much for coming here and you can follow me on Behance, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter if you want to be informed about my artwork.
