The Sandman is a comic book series written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics. The series is famous for Gaiman’s trademark use of anthropomorphic personification of various metaphysical entities, while also blending mythology and history in its horror setting within the DC Universe.
I wanted to vary my style a little by testing different techniques. As I do not have paint material, I decided to use Photoshop in my favor in this case because there you get everything. I used several smoke brushes to give this specific effect on the background that is conversable with the character.
I started by drawing in pencil on an A4 sheet. Then I scanned the drawing and put it in photoshop. Using masks, I used a dense brush to do the smoke effect on the background and then added some particles over the hand to simulate sand.
It was highly praised. I feel that I am getting better and better. As I took photoshop course a few years ago, I did not have so many difficulties. But with each drawing I’m discovering a variety of options to complement my work and make it more complete.
