Malik Fazal's project is a multiplayer iOS game for a client of the agency he was working for. It was a large-scale project which involved several creative leaders. The client requested them to redesign a previous user interface of the game which he was unsatisfied with. He wished for a more alluring animated look but keeping the original concept intact.

I was assigned to work on the user interface and user experience from concept to delivery. After examining the original design I concluded that it was rather dull and needed more life to it and readability on mobile devices. However, I made sure to keep the original color theme of the sea. Since the game was an underwater theme I came up with the idea to use the ocean elements in the user interface so that the feel of the game remains intact.

I wanted to fit the user interface underwater thus I placed artistic versions of ocean life such as seaweed and coral reefs. From that I sprung out the user interface with a background of the underwater life. I requested the concept art department to sketch the outline of the user interface as an animated reef. After compositing all these elements together the finishing touches sparked my mind right away. Thus I used colors such as pink and blue and used bubbles for the buttons.

Nothing specifically inspired me. However, I did look towards animated cartoons such as Finding Nemo, Spongebob, and The Little Mermaid. Similar game projects designs also inspired me but I managed to keep my ideas original.

I design with total creative freedom. I do not stick to any principles or rules regarding the look and feel of a project. Designing is my passion, thus my heart rules the clicks of the mouse. My style is such that I give all my designs my own unique touch but I manage to give my clients exactly what they asked for. Despite the fact that I am designing on a technical platform I act as if I am an artist painting strokes on an open canvas. My main inspiration is Walt Disney because he thought away from reality, something that was out of the norm. I am also inspired by the designers at Pixar and Active Vision.

I would say that the edge on my design is my passion. I began working at the young age of 18 without any specific guidance. I am a self-made designer who loves to keep his own originality in all his work. Because of my experience I have a strong hold on designing software which allow me to twist and mend a design anyway I like. I would advise aspiring artists to live and breathe the tools that you will be using in your career. Once you get a hold on your tools your mind will speak for itself on any design platform. Always take inspiration but be original.
