Kaffa combines trend and tradition in a beautiful, minimalist take on the Turkish coffee pot. Modeled after the conical shape of the time-tested original, the design allows users to enjoy the Turkish method of coffee brewing from anywhere, without the need for fire. A portable, rechargeable heating pad heats the extremely fine grounds just until boiling at which time the container can be removed from the heat. This process can be repeated several times.

I wanted to design a product which is from my cultural objects then I picked the Turkish coffee pot. While I was researching on this subject, I saw many Turkish coffee pots made by copper, stainless steel and glass also there were many technological products for Turkish coffee pot on the market. I decided to design Turkish coffee pot more innovative than already exist ones.

Technological products did not seem to be a traditional Turkish coffee pots. It has to remind me it's a Turkish coffee pot. I have compared technologic one with traditional one so I decided the form which is correct for tradition. I cut the electric source, I took the modern approach even further with a portable and rechargeable heating pad. The pad heats the coffee until just boiling and then the pot is removed for maximum foam. Because the pad is rechargeable, it can be used anywhere inside the house or on the road without worrying about being near an outlet. The after going several uses, the pad can be recharged via a USB charger.

At the beginning I tried to catch the beautiful form with free hand sketches, when I am okay with final form I turned it to 3D model. I made realistic visualizations for it in Keyshot then I add some modifications in photoshop.
At the end I light my cigarette then spent a lot of time while watching it. It was a joke, I do not smoke but I watched it so much. ?

I had very good feedbacks from behance.net then it published on Yanko design after that I saw my product on lots of websites and I recieved many mails from who wants to buy it also a american investor. We developed it for produce but we had some problems about rechargeable heating pad. So we will not see it on the market at the moment.

Sedat Özer is an Industrial Product Designer based in Istanbul.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Product Design from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He has also studied Master in Product Design at Domus Academy in Milan.
While he studying he had opportunity to work with Kunter Şekercioğlu, Philippe Tabet and at Vestel which is biggest home and professional appliances manufacturing company in Turkey.
