Kooksoondang-Korean representative traditional alcohol manufacturer- developed handcraft vinegar series from alcohol, like makgeolli and fruits wine, in the brewing laboratory.
To Express authentic quality with slow fermentation method of vinegars, I tried to used informational texts, dark colored bottle, straight and firm gothic typography, but on the contrary full colored band at the top as a distinctive point.
I searched lots of packages of vinegar packages and also food packages with typography, because I wanted to make them unusual and unprecedented; and I chose informational style that delivers product essence.
Refining symbol mark and BI was last step.
Two types of symbol mark was created representing two types of vinegar; makgeolli based vinegar using rice icon; fruits wine based vinegar using tree; sandglass icon was added to express time to brew.
BI was simple that makes easy to read and remember the brand, but material text and drop was added with point color, making BI unique.
Adobe Photoshop was used for sketching to show whole product images at first meeting.
After design direction was agreed, real sized and shaped label was printed by Adobe Illustrator during whole developing process. I attached them to real bottles again and again.
I got positive messages from online(Behance and design blogs), and also from sales shop in Korea.
There was crisis during this project, because marketer wanted to insert material images like berry, rice that makes product easier, so I had to stand for this.
After long time discussion and persuasion, he accepted the original concept and admitted the quality of outcomes.
I believe design concept-hand made laboratory product, not fancy or decorative but sincere and veracious- was the key power of persuasion.
Being confidence and stick to the original concept no matter how, is the most important.
Developing took about 6 weeks -2017 May ~ June-, and following additional works(like a gift box, box-tape etc.) are going on.
